School of Technology

Dr. Niaz Latif, Dean, School of TechnologyWelcome to The School of Technology!!! On our campus you will feel incredible energy, determination and sense of purpose that infuses Purdue University Calumet.

We strive for program excellence through continuously improving our curricula that are connected to industry and businesses. The School of Technology has had a number of accomplishments that continue to enhance the degree programs. I would like to share a few with you:

  • A new Mechatronics Engineering Technology Laboratory was developed as a collaborative effort between the University and many members of the packaging industry resulting in a world class laboratory. With over $500,000 in donations as a result of this collaboration, PUC students have access to modern equipment of the same quality they will encounter upon employment.

  • Two School of Technology faculty members were awarded Summer Research and Instructional Development Grants by the Northwest Indiana Computing Grid (NWICG).

Ge Jin D.Sc, Assistant Professor, Computer Information Technology and Graphics, is researching immersive virtual reality based rehabilitation system with a data glove.

Dennis P. Korchek, Professor, Construction Science and Organizational Leadership, has set the goal of this NWICG project to develop a virtual construction of a wood-framed single family house to demonstrate construction principles and framing details to students enrolled in ARET 250, Architectural Construction I.

  • Students enrolled in Architectural Construction I built walls for a residence for Northwest Indiana Habitat for Humanity.  Under the direction of Prof. Dennis Korchek and CMET Lab Technician Pete Peters, the students enrolled in the course worked together to complete the construction of all of the walls for the 1200 square foot residence.

  • The PUC Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Mini-Baja Team faired very well at the competition this year.  Baja SAE consists of three regional competitions that simulate real-world engineering design projects and their related challenges. Students are tasked to design and build an off-road vehicle that will survive the severe impact of rough terrain and sometimes even water. The team was made up of students from the School of Technology and School of Engineering.

Our graduates are well prepared for careers in their respective fields. They are prepared to enter into wide ranges of positions in industry, business and government. Placement rates of our graduates are excellent with local/regional/national industry and businesses.

Please explore and look for the program that interests you and let us help you prepare for the career of your choice. To learn more about our programs and a tour of our facilities, please call us at 219-989-3251.

Best wishes.
