Parent University in East Chicago

“Promoting Excellence in Education:  Preparing our youth for the 21st century”

On Saturday, October 11, 2008 please plan to attend “Parent University” at Central High School (East Chicago) if you are an interested parent in learning about new and innovative educational programs and processes for inner city youth.  Dr. James Comer, Child Psychiatrist, East Chicago native and founder of the School Development Program (SDP) at Yale University will be the keynote speaker for this event which will run from 8:45-11:00 a.m.

This event will also feature vendor booths, a college fair, and youth programs focusing on a teen summit and sports program.  For more information please contact ETS at 989-2460.

Initiative participants to visit colleges in Indiana

The University of Notre Dame and Taylor University among tour highlights

ETS accompanied 28 Initiative (6-8th grade) program participants on visitations to the University of Notre Dame (South Bend) and Taylor University (Upland) on August 18-19, 2008.  Participants learned labout the  various aspects of the collegiate experience including academic programs, support networks, financial aid/scholarship opportunities, and social life.  Additionally, participants  had an opportunity to unwind at the Splash Universe Water Park Resort near Shipshewanna, IN.

Middle and Junior High School participants participate in unique summer experience

hpim0872.JPGEducational Talent Search hosted participants for the summer 2008 Project Excel academic enrichment program. With a focus on Health, Mathematics, Science, and Technology, the program’s goal was to build a bridge to the 2008-09 school year.   

The program adopted the National Institute of Health (NIH) and Discovery Education recommended curriculum which is consistent with the state of Indiana recommended academic standards.  Additionally, participants engaged in group projects, teambuilding, and unique field trips.

COE offers tool to assist in college matching process

As an ETS program participant you are working hard setting goals for your future.  With the aid of eProfiles, a free online tool which is being made available compliments of the Council for Opportunity in Education (COE), you will be on your way to discovering the richness of educational opportunities.  Electronic profiles (eProfiles) will allow you to create and highlight your personal talents and acomplishments by creating a unique electronic profile.

ETS is encouraging all participants to complete this FREE eProfile.  Click here to get started.  There is a mid-August targeted deadline for completion.
