Understanding the Special Needs of Students: At Risk, In-Crisis and Disabled
Crisis Prevention and Intervention: identifying, assessing and managing potentially distressed, disturbed or dysregulated students in high schools and post secondary institutions
Understanding the Special Needs of Students: At-Risk, In-Crisis and Disabled workshop is a 5 hour program designed to address educators concerns regarding:
- students with mental health needs
- students with special education needs
- students with disabilities
- the transition from high school to college: Transition documentation necessary to assist students engage services through the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) office on College Campus
- messages to communicate to students about self advocacy when transitioning from high school to college
- ways to educate general/regular education students and parents about college stressors and predisposition factors associated with college student mental health needs
- normalizing seeking help: counseling, student support services and medication
