GoPrint is a print management system currently implemented in campus computer labs as of the fall 2007 semester. GoPrint has been being implemented in order to meet the many challenges labs face when dealing with printing issues. Implementing this system will ensure that students continue to have convenient and affordable access to printing services for academic purposes.
Using GoPrint
1. After sending a document or file to print, the GoPrint Login Screen will open. Your print job(s) will be listed on the screen. Before you pay, you will need to delete any previous print jobs from the login screen that you no longer want to print by clicking on the X next to the print job name.
2. Login using the first segment of your student Career Account username, for example: gsmith, your current 8 digit password, and clicking ‘Sign In’ on the GoPrint Login Screen.
3. You are only being charged for prints in excess of your quota! Every student is allocated $20.00 in free prints and the beginning of each semester. GoPrint fees will be deducted from the Free Print Quota first. After the Free Print Quota has been used, students will need to put money into a ‘Cash to Account’ station that looks much a change machine.
These stations are located in the lounge area of SULB, and the vending the vending machine areas in the CLO and the ALCT.
Note: Printing costs will be 4 cents per page for single-sided documents. You’ll be given a 20 dollar per semester allowance, which equates to 500 free black and white 8½” x 11” pages.
Note: Be sure to PREVIEW your print job BEFORE you print to ensure its quality and to verify that it is what you intend to print.
4. To print your document(s), click on ‘Pay with Quota’. If you have more than one print job listed, ALL your print jobs will be sent to the printer when you click on ‘Pay with Quota’. Delete any print jobs you do not want to print.
5. Your print job(s) will be sent to the printer where they can be picked up.
6. If you minimize or close the GoPrint screen, you can return to the screen by clicking on the GoPrint icon in the lower right hand corner of the computer’s screen.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why isn’t it cheaper to print duplex?
A: The cost of the paper is very small relative to the cost of a print job. Much of the cost is tied up in the cost of the printer, support and the toner used for printing.
Q: What happens when there is a printer jam or error, or my document doesn’t print at all? Can I get those prints credited back to my account?
A: Printing errors and jams do occur and any loss of print pages associated with such a problem will be credited back to your account. However, you must retain the bad document as proof of the error, report problems, and complete a form for a lab assistant or the designed staff on duty.
Q: Am I being charged for the banner page?
A: No. Banner pages are used to help identify your print job and will not be counted against your quota.
Q: Once a job is sent to the printer, can it be cancelled or stopped from printing?
A: No. Once a job is selected and released for printing, it cannot be cancelled. The user must pay for the print.
Q: How do I cancel a large print job that was released by mistake?
A: See the Lab Assistant on duty. If no assistant is available, fill out the form located in the lab.
Q: How can I tell the number of pages have I used this semester?
A: Your remaining balance is visible each time you use GoPrint before you release your print job.
Q: Will I be warned when I’m about to run out of pages?
A: It is your responsibility to monitor the balance of your account each time you print.
Q: How do I print multiple pages per sheet so that I’m charged properly?
A: When choosing to print from an application such as PowerPoint or Acrobat/Acrobat Reader, there is an option to print multiple pages per actual sheet of paper.
Q: I noticed a pop-up message saying I printed more pages after I submitted my initial print job, why does this happen and who should I see to correct this and make sure no one has my information to use for printing?
A: After submitting a print job let’s say in Bay A of the main lab, your GoPrint account remains logged in, and when this happens you will be notified every time someone prints something that happens to be on the same print server as the printer you submitted your print job on. It will also appear as if you submitted the print job.
