  • Outlook for faculty and staff. Comes with your network account and is also accessible via the web at https://owa.calumet.purdue.edu/exchange
  • Netmail for our students. (Currently re-evaluating student email)


Desktop computers MS Windows XP Pro on Intel PCs

  • This is our standard. Some academic departments have purchased Macs, but support for this platform is offered through the OIT


Campus network

  • 100 Mbs switched Ethernet to the desktop – You will need a network account if you do not already have one.  You have access to network storage as well.

H Drive


Internet Access

  • Equivalent to broadband access and better. MS Internet Explorer is our standard browser.


Student Information System

  • Banner is our student information system with some local add-ons such as Advisor Query available.


Student Access to Computers and Printers:

  • Network Access – All students are given network accounts along with email accounts
  • Main Lab – (1st Floor Powers) provides 83 computers
  • Gyte Commons (Bottom floor of Gyte) provides 41 computers.
  • PC Clusters – over 67 PCs located in Anderson, CLO, Powers, Student Union & Library Building,
  • Wireless Network – located in Student Union & Library Building, CLO, Powers, and Fitness and Recreational. Center

Student Access to Enrollment Services

  • Students can apply for admissions, register for classes, make tuition payments, and more using PCStar at www.calumet.purdue.edu.
  • PCStar will be integrating into the My PUC portal during the fall semester.

  • Faculty, staff and students are now able to connect to the campus computing network via wireless connection.

Software for general applications

  • MS Office is standard on all PCs – you can get it for your home for $30 at the bookstore. SPSS is also available for statistical work.

Virus protection software

  • McAfee is our standard on all campus PCs and you can get it for free for your home computer at the Operations counter (2nd Floor Powers).

Course Management System

Instructional Technology

  • OIT provides support on a number of Instructional technologies such as podcasting, iTunes U, eInstruction, Echo 360, Respondus, two-way interactive video, Adobe Connect, and many other resources.

Research Computing Resources

  • PUC offers a variety of computational resources to support research: The Insight Visualization Lab in Powers 108 offers a powerful immersive 3D visualization system that can be used to enhance research and instruction.  In addition we have a sizable Condor pool, one small 16 node Linux cluster and we are in the process of implementing the larger 512 node Miner cluster for late Spring 2009.

Classroom Support

  • Our AV area supports over 90 electronic classrooms and has a delivery service for rooms without fixed equipment.
  • To request AV services please contact the CSC.

Scantron Test Scoring

  • Pick up/turn in bubble sheets at the CTIS Operations window (2nd Floor Powers) or, if you prefer, scan them yourself at the OIT (Gyte 135).


MS Office (for PC & Mac), Windows XP, & Mac OS

  • You can get it for your home machine for a discount at the campus bookstore
