The Advanced Practice Nurse is to maintain the following standards in the care of clients / patients (herein referred to as clients):

(1) Assess clients by using advanced knowledge and skills to:

(A) identify abnormal conditions;

(C) develop and implement nursing treatment plans;
(D) evaluate patient outcomes; and
(E) collaborate with or refer to a practitioner in managing the plan of care, in accordance with all laws and regulations.

(2) Use advanced knowledge and skills in teaching and guiding clients and other health team members.

(3) Use appropriate critical thinking skills to make independent decisions, commensurate with the autonomy, authority, and responsibility of a nurse practitioner.

(4) Function within the legal boundaries of their advanced practice area and shall have and utilize knowledge of the statutes and rules governing their advanced practice area,
including the following:

(A) state and federal drug laws and regulations.
(B) state and federal confidentiality laws and regulations.
(C) state and federal medical records access laws.

(5) Consult and collaborate with other members of the health team as appropriate to provide reasonable client care, both acute and ongoing.

(6) Recognize the limits of individual knowledge and experience, and consult with or refer clients to other health care providers as appropriate.

(7) Retain professional accountability for any delegated intervention, and delegate interventions only as authorized by laws and regulations.

(8) Maintain current knowledge and skills in the nurse practitioner area.

(9) Conduct an assessment of clients which may include health history, family history, physical examination, and evaluation of health risk factors.

(10) Assess normal and abnormal findings obtained from the history, physical examination, and laboratory results

Our client, Provena St. Mary’s Hospital is a 189 bed acute care facility with a Level II Emergency/Trauma Center. The Director, Emergency Services position and reports to the Vice President of Clinical Operations/CNE, and is responsible for approximately 40 FTEs and 37,000 annual visits in the Level II Trauma Center. Direct reports to the Director, Emergency Services are a patient care manager, trauma coordinator and EMS coordinator. The Director, Emergency Services is responsible for the administration of the Emergency Department by planning, directing, organizing, evaluating, and facilitating patient care through defining, interpreting, monitoring and implementing the standards of care and practice in relation to the quality and quantity of care. The Director, Emergency Services develops and maintains budget; ensures staffing schedules and patient assignments are appropriate; ensures staff assignments are handled appropriately and in a timely manner. The Director also assures the accurate, efficient preparation and maintenance of all required records and reports; directs, coordinates and participates in staff selection, education and evaluation activities; and for planning, marketing and business development for the department.

Bachelors Degree in nursing or other related field is required. Masters Degree preferred. A minimum of five years experience in clinical nursing practice, two of which are in a leadership capacity in the Emergency Room.

Provena Mercy Medical Center’s Stoll Emergency Department is specially designed to treat everything from cuts and sprains to life-threatening illnesses and injuries. The Director is responsible for 58 FTEs in this Level II Trauma Center that makes Emergency treatment available 24 hours a day. The Director will report to the Vice President of Patient Care Services/CNO and will initially have responsibility for increasing patient and employee satisfaction, increasing patient throughput and increasing employee accountability. The Director is expected to perform the primary functions of a professional nurse leader in assessing planning, directing, implementing, and evaluating patient care to ensure continuity of care with other shifts, units and services, staff, and physicians.

I am representing a large hospital on the West Coast of Florida. This hospital has a need for Clinical Nurse Specialists in these areas: Adult Medical Nursing, Adult Surgical Nursing, Critical Care Nursing and Maternal Child Nursing.

The CNS works in collaboration with the management team, peers and staff to advance nursing and promote the development of an evidence-based professional practice environment The CNS works to continually improve clinical outcomes, and provide clinical expertise to effect system-wide changes to improve programs of care.
