Openings remain in Aug. 3 PUC golf outing in support of student-athletes grants

Openings remain in Purdue University Calumet’s annual golf outing, Monday, Aug. 3, in support of the Peregrines’ athletics grants-in-aid program.

The 29th annual Powers-Purdue Calumet Invitational will be held at Briar Ridge Country Club. In addition to a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start, the 18-hole outing features a breakfast buffet, lunch and refreshments. Each participant also will receive a golfer’s vest.

The entry fee is $250 per golfer or $1,000 per foursome. Sponsorship opportunities also are available at levels of $2,500, $1,000, $500 and $200.

Named after local business leader/longtime Purdue Calumet supporter Don Powers and retired Purdue Calumet Director of Athletics John Friend, who collaborated in establishing the event, the Invitational has raised more than $700,000 in support for student athletes.

Persons can register to participate or obtain more information by contacting Purdue Calumet’s Office of Health, Recreation and Sports at 219/989-2540 or 800/HI-PURDUE, ext. 2540.
