June 1 is the application deadline for international high school and college students who want to participate in Purdue University Calumet’s Summer Language & Culture Immersion Program.
Scheduled July 6-31, the educational and cultural four-week program is designed for students interested in studying in the United States and experiencing U.S. culture first-hand.
Morning classes offer an academic concentration focusing on listening, speaking, reading, writing and grammar. Afternoons are devoted to several elective classes, such as Language Through Film, TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) Preparation and American Culture.
All classes will have American students serving as mentors inside and outside the classroom, helping with language practice and social and cultural activities. Class sessions are scheduled Monday through Thursday. Fridays feature organized field trips to music festivals, art shows, museums, sporting activities and visits to state/national parks in the Chicago area. Other mentor-led activities are planned for weekends.
Participant cost is $2,600, which includes expenses for health insurance, field trips, airport transportation, housing, the first three days of meals, shopping, transportation and instructional materials.
