On September 30th Purdue Calumet’s Saudi students celebrated Eid Alfiter. Eid Alfiter is a Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting. It is celebrated starting on the first day of the Islamic month of Shawwal. The students got together at 6 a.m. and enjoyed coffee and candy at one of the student’s home. After that, they departed for the mosque to pray the Eid’s prayer. They prayed and listened to the Imam’s lecture. Then they were wished each other and other Muslims a Happy Eid. During the wishing they enjoyed some candy and took pictures. They drove back to Indiana to have breakfast at one of the Saudi student’s house. They ate breakfast and danced. Purdue’s Saudi students wish a Happy Eid to all Muslims in Purdue. Purdue Calumet joined in the celebration of Ramadan this year by hosting a Ramadan dinner on September 24th in which all staff, students, and faculty were invited. Highlighting the diversity of Purdue Calumet’s staff and students is a goal of the International Programs Office.
