Checklist for Immigration Documents Required for International Students
Before Visa is Received:
- Be admitted to Purdue University Calumet as a degree seeking student or for a special program (Must be a full course of study)
- Submit original financial support documents from sponsor such as bank statements, proof of employment with yearly earnings indicating adequate liquid assets to support student for one academic year (required of initial entry students and transfer students) Financial support should be at least equal to the amount of money that appears on the I-20 (the document student takes to the American Embassy in their country to apply for a visa). The cost for the English Language Program does include additional fees related to mentoring. Documents must be in English and show American dollar conversion, if possible
- Submit original letter(s) of willingness to support student, completed by the sponsor along with financial documents (required of initial entry students and transfer students). Sponsors can be the student, parents, family, friends, business, Purdue University Calumet or a combination of the above
After Visa is Received
- Please submit a copy of the following to Purdue University Calumet: passport picture page and name page, other visas or immigration documents that have previously been issued to the student
- Complete the International Student Arrival Form at www.calumet.purdue.edu/international/arrival_form.html at least two weeks before your arrival date. All international students are required to complete this form
- Visit our web site at www.calumet.purdue.edu/international/ for additional information and resources to assist you in understanding the process of getting the I-20, responsibilities of studying in the United States, banking and important arrival information
Transferring within USA
If a student is in the USA and transferring from another university, a SEVIS release transfer form from their current university, indicating that the student is in good immigration standing and registered with the Department of Homeland Security. Note: All of the above, along with other immigration and informational materials and requirements of an F-1 student while in the United States, should be sent to the International Student Services department, which will then issue and dispatch the I-20.
