About Purdue University Calumet
Purdue University Calumet is an academically comprehensive university and part of the Purdue University System. Classes were first offered on the campus in 1946. Today, more than 9,600 students attend classes in which the student faculty ratio is 23 to 1. Since it’s inception, the university has awarded more than 39,000 internationally respected Purdue degrees.
Purdue University Calumet’s 167-acre, secure campus is located in Hammond, Indiana, in the Midwestern region of the United States. Just 25 miles from downtown Chicago, Illinois and near the shores of Lake Michigan, Purdue Calumet offers a diverse learning community and welcomes and supports international students.

Campus and Area Culture
With more than 60 different clubs/organizations on campus, Purdue University Calumet has something for various interest groups and ethnicities. The clubs/ organizations provide educational, social and cultural experiences for members.
Additionally, serious athletes and those playing just for fun enjoy the camaraderie and competition afforded by intercollegiate basketball and intramural sports at the campus’ Fitness & Recreation Center.

Available to students at Purdue University Calumet are more than 100 fields of study offered within our six schools. With historic strengths in engineering and technology, Purdue University Calumet is also highly regarded in the areas of liberal arts, natural, behavioral and social sciences, and for our professional programs in nursing, management/business, and education. Purdue Calumet has been nationally ranked for three consecutive years as a top 50 engineering school in the United States by U.S.News and World Report.
Drawing upon the university’s considerable computer resources, the faculty attempts to provide students with both technical skills and awareness of the social and ethical importance of new technology. All faculty members are highly qualified and expected to stay current in their fields. They publish in and edit top journals; they win awards; they are engaged in nationally prominent research; and they bring this expertise to the classroom.
