‘Exciting adventures’ for self-described ‘HUGE sports junkie’

By JOE WIELOSINSKI

It’s hard to find words to describe my experience broadcasting Purdue Calumet basketball games on Hammond radio station WJOB this past season. Each game brought forth new and exciting adventures to go through.

As I look back on the games I announced, I think about how amazing the opportunity was for me. I am a HUGE sports junkie and hope someday to have a career in the world of sports broadcasting. For me, the time spent broadcasting Peregrine games was a great learning opportunity, and a chance to hone my skills for the future.

Communication broadcast majors Kaitlin Craig of Highland and Joe Wielosinski of Burnham, Ill. gained valuable Aexperience as the student radio voices of Purdue Calumet Peregrines basketball this past season. The 11 games they broadcast, directed by veteran sports broadcaster and Purdue Calumet alumnus Brian Jennings, aired on Hammond station WJOB.

I would like to thank (Assistant Vice Chancellor for Advancement / University Relations) Wes Lukoshus and (Production Coordinator / Instructor) Craig Blohm for providing me with the opportunity to take part in the broadcasts.

Also, I’d like to thank (veteran sports broadcaster/PUC alumnus) Brian Jennings for his insight, and helping me improve from game to game, as well as Katie Craig for being, not only my broadcast partner, but my best friend.

Last, but not least, thanks to everyone involved in the Peregrines men’s and women’s basketball programs. Hopefully, I will be able to look back on my time announcing this past season as a part of my life that opened the door for my future career.

Thanks.
