Fall Specialty Classes

Session 1: August 31, 2009 - October 24, 2009

(ONLY Session 1 classes apply for the 2009 Healthy Purdue incentive!)

Session 2: October 26, 209 - December 19, 2009

 Faculty/Staff (Spouses & SSDP), Students & Fitness Center Members

$10 per Specialty Class

($10 for 1 class for entire 8-week session!  Ex. Totally Tubular + Zumba = $20 for 8 week session)

**Non-members – Cost $40 per class**

All payment should be made at the Fitness Center in the FRC building.

 “Abs”-so-lutely Fabulous

Monday & Wednesday 12:15-12:45 PM

30 minute, noontime workout targets the midsection and other muscle groups.  Various equipment will be used.  This starter class applies to all fitness levels -  tone your body and boost your metabolism in a short amount of time.

Advanced Abs and Core**(Class enrollment limited to 1st 20 sign-ups!)

Monday, Wednesday & Thursday 4:15 – 5PM

A 45-minute, high-energy, hard driving, fast-pace class designed for those with good ab and core strength.  Multiple sets of different exercises with minimal rest between set is the class format. Not a class for beginners.

Beginning Abs & Core**(Class enrollment limited to 1st 20 sign-ups!)

Tuesday & Friday 5:10-5:40PM

 An entry level class designed for those with little or no experience performing abdominal or core exercises.  The class focuses on teaching beginners how to correctly do basic abdominal and core exercises.  Introductory exercises on a stability ball and movements using a medicine ball will also be included in this 30-minute, moderate-intensity workout.

Totally Tubular

Tuesday & Friday 4:30-5PM

 This 30-minute low-to-moderate intensity, muscle toning class is designed for those who would like to begin strengthening the major muscles of the body without weight machines or more advanced techniques.  Exercises are performed from sitting and standing positions using rubber tubing and light dumbbells.

Yoga

Tuesday & Thursday 7:15-8:15AM

Tuesday & Thursday 12-1PM

Wonderful class to relax, increase strength and improve flexibility.  Make the mind-body connection! Joanna Spyudt has 9 years of Yoga experience in Chicago and NWI.  She is the current owner and instructor of Inner Balance Yoga.

Tai Chi

Monday & Wednesday 7-7:45AM

Meditation in motion.  Learn to revitalize the “chi” with this easy moving class.  It has great physical benefits and helps with balance too. Sponsored by the Arthritis Foundation.  Open to all levels.

Zumba (Class held in gymnasium)

Monday & Wednesday 5:15-6PM

Dance yourself fit!  A great way to get moving and burn extra calories!  Set to Latin dance music, get ready to mambo, cha-cha and meringue yourself to fitness! Open to all fitness levels

 FREE CLASSES – First come, first serve basis.  Only 15 participants allowed in the Specialty room
