			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>School of Technology Faculty has received a 1 year research project from VR Sonic Inc. This project, entitled “Facial State Recognition Research Project ” is under the direction of Assistant Professor Ge Jin of the Computer Information Technology and Graphics Department. The award is in the amount of $42,000 and will support research and development of real-time computer vision based facial status recognition system.</p>
<p>This project is to support affective learning in virtual training environments by detecting the human facial features and expressions. This includes 1) human face location tracking, 2) facial feature extraction, and 3) affective state classification.</p>

<p><strong>Job Description</strong></p>
<p>Purdue University Calumet invites applications and nominations for a senior scholar and educator for the position of Department Head of Computer Information Technology and Graphics.  The department has 9 faculty members with degree programs in two areas:  Computer Information Technology and Computer Graphics Technology.  The department currently has approximately 375 undergraduate students and 30 graduate students.</p>
<p>The Department Head will represent the department effectively at all levels of the university and provide the leadership necessary to achieve the department&#8217;s teaching, research, and service missions and advance Purdue University Calumet&#8217;s 2009-2012 strategic initiatives.  Administrative duties for this 12-month position include budget and personnel management; curriculum and program development; recruitment of faculty, faculty promotion and tenure, and development; student recruitment, retention; external development efforts and outreach activities.</p>
<p><strong>Qualifications</strong></p>
<p>Masters Degree required.  An earned Ph.D. degree is preferred.  The degrees should be in one of the above two areas, or in a closely related field.  A notable record of teaching, professional service, and scholarship commensurate with the rank of a full professor are required.  One or more years of academic administrative experience at the university level is also required.  The appointment will be made at the level of full professor with tenure.</p>
