Goals for 2005-06

I. STUDENT SUCCESS

  1. Enrollment Management
    • Meet enrollment goals of 9,500 (headcount) and 195,000 billable hours
    • Create a plan to incrementally increase admission standards (minimum SAT)
    • Establish a partnership with Ivy Tech to provide access for provisional admits to Purdue Calumet
    • Develop a plan to increase graduate enrollments by 750 billed credit hours and to identify new graduate programs
    • Award 200 additional Best and Brightest scholarships (for a goal of 380 by Spring 2006)
  2. Residential Life/Campus Life
    • Develop a meal “points plan” in partnership with Chartwell
    • Establish a campus-based student health clinic for all students
    • Continue leasing program to achieve target of 95%/25% occupancy
    • Develop a student public transportation program providing reliable and timely access to local/regional bus and rail transportation
    • Create a student life/campus life activity plan, including:
      • Increase intramural activity by 25%
      • Increase attendance at basketball games 20%
      • Creation of pre-professional and social affinity groups
  3. Honors Program
    • Establish first honors courses for Spring 2006
    • Recruit first class of honors students
    • Establish an Honors Program Advisory Board
  4. International Programs
    • Establish an Office for International Studies
    • Establish an ESL training program
    • Develop up to 7 articulation programs with universities abroad and recruit at least 25 additional students

II. FACULTY AND STAFF EXCELLENCE – PROGRAM QUALITY

  1. Faculty and Staff Development
    • Produce a comprehensive faculty staff development plan and structure that includes:
      • A leadership development program for deans, directors and department heads
      • A common staff training component
      • A systematic faculty development strategy
      • An assessment process
  2. Accreditation
    • Integrate key assessment projects into AQIP System Portfolio
    • Participate in AQIP Strategy Forum
    • Review and update current AQIP special projects
    • Undergo successful ABET accreditation for technology programs
  3. Organization
    • Create department structure in School of Management
    • Integrate Computer Information Systems faculty into Management Information Systems
    • Recruit a Dean of the School of Management

III. HIGH PERFORMANCE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

  1. Campus Master Plan
    • Develop a campus master planning process to review current documents and develop a master plan for growth scenarios to 10,500 students and to potential physical capacity
    • Engage a consultant to work with the campus planning committee
  2. Information Technology
    • Ensure active campus involvement in OnePurdue
    • Extend wireless technology and distributed computer stations across campus
    • Assess need for wireless program at the Academic Learning Center
    • Replace Groupwise email system with Outlook/Exchange
    • Expand faculty use of Web CT
    • Assess Web CT as a learning tool
  3. Facilities
    • Complete campus wayfinding program
    • Construct a convenience store, in partnership with Chartwell, in the Library Student Union Building

IV. ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PARTNERSHIP

  1. Incubator Development
    • Implement contract to provide program for Hammond Business Incubator
    • Purdue NWI Technology Center
      • Develop transition management plan from PRF to Purdue Calumet by March 2006 for a July 1 transition
  2. Institutes and Centers
  3. Develop a timeline and milestones for institutes and centers

    • Water Institute:
      • Search for Francis and Elsie Meyer Professor,
      • Establish joint research projects with Argonne National Labs,
      • Appoint Institute director,
      • Continue public lecture series on water issues
      • Develop research and education programs for the institute
    • Energy Institute:
      • Search for NiSource Professor
      • Secure grants and contracts
    • Center for Women and Minorities in Construction:
      • Develop a strategy for funding
      • Establish 05-06 goals
      • Identify a internal and external program leadership
    • Regional Center for Health Literacy
      • Develop a strategy for funding
      • Establish 05-06 goals
      • Build partnerships with regional health-care providers
    • Center for Science and Technology in Education:
      • Search for Thomas Crowel Professor
      • Establish 05-06 goals
      • Pursue grant opportunities
  4. Hammond Magnet School Project
    • Work with the School City of Hammond and Civil City of Hammond to create a magnet school proposal.
    • Host a Hammond Education Summit on the project proposal

V. OVERARCHING SUPPORT

  1. Advancement
    • Establish a planned giving society
    • Appoint an Assistant Vice Chancellor for Advancement
    • Conduct an alumni engagement survey
    • Meet goals of increased alumni giving from 7% to 10%, campus giving from 34% to 40%, and campaign giving of $2,800,000.
  2. Marketing and Communications
    • Develop and implement a university-wide marketing plan
    • Complete the campus emergency response project, including:
      • Equip two emergency response stations
      • Post emergency instructions in every classroom
      • Implement a campus-wide emergency response training program
  3. Multi-cultural Campus
    • Establish a Multi-cultural Campus Advisory Board
    • Develop a proposal to address campus issues related to multi-cultural diversity
    • Establish a process for assessing campus climate for multi-cultural inclusiveness
