The 2007-2008 Career Success Guide is hot off the press and ready for students in 349. The Career Success Guide serves as a hands-on guide to take students through the job search and recruitment process and is fully integrated into Purdue University Calumet’s career development and planning program. Students at other universities rank guides such as this as their most useful resource for career planning, job placement and on-campus interviews.Articles on dining etiquette, CareerTrax registration, social networking, the value of company benefits, and a plan for success are just a few of the new additions to this year’s guide.

Looking for a quick and easy way to learn more about yourself at the core? Career Services with the support of Educational Opportunity Programs and the Counseling Center have implemented a new online program that can do just that through personality and learning style testing.

Many of us have read books such as What Color is Your Parachute or Do What You Are seeking clues or insight into our own career selection. Now, in just a few minutes, you can get started right here on the Career Services homepage. A quick click icon on the right connects you to CollegeScope’s Do What You Are, a Personality Type assessment and career development program delivered as a fully automated and self scoring, internet software application.

The results are delivered immediately in the form of individually tailored reports that provide relevant information including:an explanation of personality type, strengths and possible blind spots, factors that can create a more satisfying college and career experience.In addition to personality assessment, an added component to the program tests learning styles and preferences. CollegeScope’s PEPS Learning Style Inventory was created due to studies performed all over the world with many different cultures show that Learning Styles are a principal ingredient of achievement and success in school and at work.

Do What You Are is not meant to be a substitute for more in-depth assessments and career counseling such as the Myers-Briggs or Strong personality and interest tests provided by the Counseling Center but a way of introducing the validity of such assessments to all by increasing interest in self discovery.
