Ever wondered when most job candidates make mistakes during the job-search process?
Nearly one-third (32 percent) of the more than 1,400 chief financial officers (CFOs) polled by Robert Half Finance & Accounting believe job applicants make more missteps during the interview stage of the hiring process than at any other. Twenty-one percent of those polled said the greatest number of errors occur on resumes.
CFOs were asked, “In which of the following job application areas do you feel candidates make the most mistakes?” Their responses:
- Interview—32 percent
- Resume—21 percent
- Cover letter—9 percent
- Reference checks—9 percent
- Interview follow-up—7 percent
- Screening call—6 percent
- Other—2 percent
- Don’t know/no answer—14 percent

Last week, PUC’s student organization, the Society for Women Engineers, kicked off the fall on-campus recruiting season by bringing Hewlett Packard to campus. 75 students attended the information session and more than twenty students interviewed for positions.
