Tom Megyesi

Tom MegyesiTom Megyesi, Head Coach

Megyesi’s 2007-08 squad was plagued with injuries and team family matters off the court that led to a 7-24 overall finish in his rookie year at the collegiate level. The Peregrines were fifth in the Chicagoland Collegiate Conference at 3-7.

Only seven players were healthy enough to finish last season, and two, Linsey Smith (Lake Central) and Shannon Dugan (Mother McAuley), were seniors. Returning leading scorers are Meme Harris (Merrillville) a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference honorable mention and Jenny Britton (Lake Central) who played only 12 games before suffering a season-ending knee injury.

Megyesi added a pair of shooters among his 2008-09 recruits. Stephaine Beck (Mishawaka, Ind.) and Nicci Desimone (Elkhart, Ind.) are two freshmen guards who will add scoring punch. Beck averaged 17.2 point, 3.4 assists, and 3.2 rebounds per game as a senior. Freshmen Krystal Coleman (Lake Central) and Corynne Gregory (Hobart) will also see plenty of playing time.

A lock for Indiana’s coaching hall of fame, Megyesi coached Lake Central High School girls’ teams to a 370-164 record over 24 seasons (1982-2006). During that time, he led his squads to 11 sectional championships, four regional titles, three semi-state crowns, a state runner-up finish in 1998 and a state championship in 1994.

He has received numerous coaching honors, including selections in 1994 and 1998 as Coach of the Year by the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association.
