Tom Megyesi is in third season as the head coach of the Purdue Calumet women’s basketball program. The Peregrines compiled a 5-5 mark in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference last season under Megyesi’s tutelage, while experiencing a five-game turnaround with a 12-18 overall mark.

Purdue Calumet has had one of the CCAC’s most prolific offenses with Megyesi at the helm, including last season’s conference-best 78.1 points per game in league action. That success has been recognized by the rest of the conference, as five of his athletes have received All-CCAC recognition in his first two campaigns at PUC.

The future of the Peregrines’ program continues to look brighter with Megyesi’s success on the recruiting front, as the head coach has signed a handful of highly touted recruits in his first two recruiting classes.

His teams have also excelled in the classroom, as two players have garnered CCAC All-Academic accolades in Megyesi’s time as head coach.

A lock for the Indiana’s coaching hall of fame, Megyesi spent 24 seasons (1982-2006) at local Lake Central High School, guiding the girl’s basketball program to a 395-164 record in that span. During his time with the Indians, Megyesi’s squads racked up 11 sectional championships, four regional titles, three semi-state crowns, a state runner-up finish in 1998 and a state championship in 1994.

The Okemos, Mich. native received numerous coaching honors during his tenure at Lake Central, highlighted by his Indiana Coaches of Girl’s Sports Association Coach-of-the-Year honors in 1994 and 1998.

Megyesi graduated from Michigan State University in 1974 with a degree in physical education. He currently resides in Merrillville, Ind. with his wife of 38 years, Jan. The couple has three children and one grandchild.
