Trojans hand Peregrines first conference loss, 88-76

REC CENTER — Holding a 23-18 lead midway through the first half, the Peregrines’ offense fell off as the Trojans went on a 22-9 run during a six-plus minute stretch. The offensive spark carried into the second half as the Trojans built a 19-point lead, but had to hold off a Peregrine comeback handing the home team the 88-76 loss in the Peregrines’ Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference home opener.

The Peregrines (7-10 overall, 1-1 CCAC) cut into the 19-point deficit during a 10-minute stretch and were within eight, 80-72, when junior Sara Keilman (Hammond Morton) got her ninth rebound of the game and hit the put-back for her fourth point. But PUC never got closer.

Sophomore Meme HarrisPoint guard Meme Harris (Merrillville) registered her second double-double of the season scoring 15 points and dishing out a season-high 11 assists. The sophomore, who leads the team with five assists per game, more than doubled her assist-per-game average in the loss.

Sophomore Chrissy Lobodinski (Merrillville) also grabbed her second double-double of the season scoring 14 points on 7-of-11 from the field (63 percent), and she pulled down 14 rebounds and had a pair of steals. The forward leads the Peregrines averaging 8.3 rebounds per game, while averaging 10 points per game.

Peregrines begin conference season with road win, 92-73

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. — All five Peregrine starters scored double figures totaling 78 points, 84 percent of the offense, in the 92-73 win against Trinity Christian College in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

Senior LaKeisha HurstPeregrine forward LaKeisha Hurst (Dover, Del.) led all scorers with 19 points, seven rebounds and three steals in limited action due to foul trouble. The senior, averaging 22 points and 10.2 rebounds in her last four games, saw only 16 minutes of action against the Trolls.

Point guard Meme Harris (Merrillville) registered her second double-double of the season scoring 13 points and matching her season-high 10 assists in the contest. Harris leads the Peregrines in assists averaging 4.3 per game.

Hurst hits career high, Peregrines’ four-game win streak ends

DEARBORN, Mich. — Peregrine senior LaKeisha Hurst (Dover, Del.) seems to be heating up for the conference season that begins next week. Hurst poured in a career-high and game-high 34 points, but the Peregrines (6-9) had their four-game winning streak snapped in the 103-93 nonconference loss to the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

Senior LaKeisha HurstHurst also grabbed game-high honors with 10 rebounds giving her back-to-back games finishing in double digits in scoring and rebounding. In her last three games Hurst is averaging 23 points and 11.3 rebounds per contest.

The Peregrines kept the game tight hitting 26-of-33 (78 percent) from the charity stripe, and also cashed in from the 3-point stripe connecting on 7-of-17, while UMD (12-1) was only 2-of-20 from the arc.
