REC CENTER — They hung around and hung around for the first 10-plus minutes of the second half, but when Robert Morris hit a field goal to go up 11 points, the Peregrines never got closer. In the final nine minutes, the Peregrines’ offense struggled hitting 5-of-12 (41 percent), while the Eagles built their advantage leading to the 105-89 nonconference loss.
Senior forward LaKeisha Hurst (Dover, Del.) rang-up her fourth double-double of the season leading all scorers with 29 points, and tied for game-high honors grabbing 15 rebounds. Hurst, who is averaging 12.4 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, has double-doubled in four of the last seven games.
Jenny Britton (Lake Central) hit 50 percent from the field, including 62 percent from the 3-point stripe and finished with 18 points. The sophomore leads the Peregrines with 13.7 points per game and has the highest 3-point average at 45 percent, and is averaging 50 percent from the 3-point stripe, third best in the conference.
Meme Harris (Merrillville) added a double figure performance scoring 14 points and led both squads with seven assists. The point guard leads the team averaging 5.1 assists and leads the conference with 7.5 assists per game.
Sophomore Chrissy Lobodinski (Merrillville), who leads the team averaging 8.4 rebounds per game, grabbed nine in the loss. The forward is third best in the conference averaging 10.3 rebounds per game.
The Peregrines (8-12) held a slight edge in the rebounding department grabbing 44 compared to the Eagles (8-11) 43, and were better from the 3-point stripe hitting 33 percent compared to 28 percent for the Eagles.
PUC heads to Milwaukee this Saturday to play conference leader Cardinal Stritch at 2 p.m. in the first of a doubleheader with the men.
