Titans hot at home, beat Peregrines 106-76

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Indiana University South Bend jumped out to an early 10-point lead and never let the Peregrines back into the contest en route to the 106-76 non-divsional Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference crossover win.

Sophomore Meme HarrisThe Titans (10-12) had six players crack the double-digit column totaling 102 points in the win. They held a 55-37 lead at the half and continued to build on their lead through the second half of action.

Peregrine point guard Meme Harris (Merrillville) led her team with 22 points, four assists and four steals. Harris, who was perfect at the charity stripe, is averaging 12.1 points and 5.1 assists per game, and she leads the CCAC averaging 7.5 assists per game.

CCAC leading Wolves beat Peregrines, 95-57

MILWAUKEE, Wisc. — Before the Peregrines had a chance to register their first basket of the contest, the Wolves already had an 11-0 lead. Although the Peregrines kept the game close for most of the first half, the Wolves’ offense hummed leading to the 95-57 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference win on Saturday.

Senior LaKeisha HurstWhen Jenny Britton (Lake Central) hit one of her three 3-pointers with seven minutes left in the first half, the Peregrines were within single digits, 29-20. But CCAC leading Cardinal Stritch (13-8 overall, 5-0 conference) closed out the half on a 21-10 run and placed the Peregrines (8-13, 2-3) in a 20-point hole.

Senior LaKeisha Hurst (Dover, Del.) continued her hot streak collecting her fifth double-double in her last eight games. Hurst led all scorers and rebounders with 24 points and 13 rebounds. The forward, who leads the Peregrines averaging 8.5 rebounds, and is the team’s second leading scorer with 13 per game, shot 55 percent from the field in the loss.

Peregrines struggle offensively in second half, lose 105-89

REC CENTER — They hung around and hung around for the first 10-plus minutes of the second half, but when Robert Morris hit a field goal to go up 11 points, the Peregrines never got closer. In the final nine minutes, the Peregrines’ offense struggled hitting 5-of-12 (41 percent), while the Eagles built their advantage leading to the 105-89 nonconference loss.

Senior LaKeisha HurstSenior forward LaKeisha Hurst (Dover, Del.) rang-up her fourth double-double of the season leading all scorers with 29 points, and tied for game-high honors grabbing 15 rebounds. Hurst, who is averaging 12.4 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, has double-doubled in four of the last seven games. 

Jenny Britton (Lake Central) hit 50 percent from the field, including 62 percent from the 3-point stripe and finished with 18 points. The sophomore leads the Peregrines with 13.7 points per game and has the highest 3-point average at 45 percent, and is averaging 50 percent from the 3-point stripe, third best in the conference.

Judson Eagles edge Peregrines, 82-78, in CCAC action

ELGIN, Ill. — Trailing by 15 points with 2:03 left to play, two Peregrines heated up the offense and shaved off 12 points to pull to 78-75 with 43 seconds on the clock. Sophomores Jenny Britton (Lake Central) and Chrissy Lobodinski (Merrillville) combined for a dozen points in 70 seconds forcing the homecrowd to the edge of their seats in Saturday’s Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference game.

Sophomore Jenny BrittonAfter a Judson timeout, the Peregrines were whistled for a foul sending Eagle Crystal Goodall to the line for a pair, which she hit for an 80-75 lead.

A Peregrine turnover and a missed field goal attempt put the ball back in Goodall’s hands with 15 seconds left, and the Peregrines put her at the line for two more free throws. She hit one giving the Eagles a six-point lead.

The Peregrines (8-11, 2-2) missed on their next attempt, but freshman Nicci Desimone (Elkhart Memorial) rebounded and found Stephaine Beck (Mishawaka) who drained a 3-pointer closing the gap to 81-78 with less than three seconds remaining. That was as close as the Peregrines could get in the final seconds.

Hurst double-doubles, Peregrines grab CCAC win

REC CENTER — Four Peregrines tallied double digits, including senior LaKeisha Hurst (Dover, Del.) who registered her third double-double of the season leading PUC to the 81-56 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference win beating Calumet College.

Senior LaKeisha HurstHurst led all rebounders pulling down 14 boards and tied for game-high scoring honors finishing with 14 points. The senior is the team’s second leading rebounder averaging 7.3 per game and is averaging11.3 points per game. She is among five Peregrines averaging double digits on the season.

The Peregrines held a 16-point lead at the break hitting 48 percent from the field and 57 percent from the 3-point stripe. They pushed the lead to 24 in the first five minutes of the second half and cruised to the victory.
