SPRING ARBOR, Mich. — Neither squad could brag about their shooting percentages in last Saturday’s nonconference affair. But the Spring Arbor University Cougars (3-1) were just good enough for the 59-47 victory.
Purdue University Calumet (1-3) hit just under 30 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes of action, while SAU connected for 45 percent of its shots leading to a 28-20 advantage at the half. Both teams struggled offensively in the second half with the Cougars edging the Peregrines 32 percent to 31.
Sophomores Chrissy Lobodinski (Merrillville) and Jenny Britton (Lake Central) had the team’s highest shooting percentages at 57 and 50 percent, respectively, and both finished with 11 points each. Lobodinski led all rebounders grabbing 10 for her first double-double of the season, and Britton hit three 3-pointers and led the team with four steals.
Meme Harris (Merrillville) led the Peregrines in scoring with 12 points, and she had a pair of assists and five rebounds.
The Peregrines host Davenport University (1-0) on Tuesday beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for ages 12-18 and free for children ages 11 and under and PUC students with a current university ID.
