JOLIET, Ill. — The University of Saint Francis Lady Saints forced the Peregrines into a season-high 30 turnovers accounting for 36 points in the game. The 30 turnovers was nearly double what the Peregrines commited in their season opener against the Lady Saints, and a big reason for the 100-67 nonconference loss.
Purdue University Calumet (2-7) was within five points (34-29) with a little more than five minutes to play in the first half. USF (4-3) strapped on the offensive feed bag and finished the half on a 20-5 run and a 20-point advantage at halftime.
Jenny Britton (Lake Central) led the Peregrines in scoring for the third consecutive game with 14 points, including four 3-pointers. The sophomore was 4-of-9 (44 percent) from the 3-point stripe, eight percentage points higher than her season average. She is the Peregrines second leading scorer averaging 12.3 points per game.
Freshman Nicci Desimone (Elkhart Memorial) finished with 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, and had two assists in the loss. Desimone is averaging 6.9 points per game in her first season with the Peregrines.
Stephaine Beck (Mishawaka) scored 11 points off the bench, also hitting a pair of 3-pointers. Beck is the team’s leading scorer averaging 13.9 per game.
Point guard Meme Harris (Merrillville) added eight points, two assists and led the team with three steals. Four Peregrines were tied for team-high honors in the rebounding department. Chrissy Lobodinski (Merrillville), Sara Keilman (Hammond Morton), LaKeisha Hurst (Dover, Del.) and Cortney Robinson (Hebron) each grabbed seven rebounds helping the squad to finish with 46 total.
The Peregrines shot 46 percent from the field and the 3-point stripe in the first half and finished with 36 percent and 40 percent respectively for the game. PUC has struggled with turnovers on the road averaging 23.4 in five games compared to a 15.7 percent rate in four home games.
The Peregrines travel to Grand Rapids, Mich., Dec. 3, to face Aquinas College at 7 p.m., CST.
