Peregrines post back-to-back wins knocking off Archers, 89-50

CHICAGO — For the first time this season the Peregrines enjoyed celebrating after consecutive wins. The Peregrines had little trouble beating the Archers of Moody Bible Institute, 89-50, in a nonconference matchup Tuesday in Chicago.

Freshman Cortney Robinson (Hebron) hit a 10-foot jumper halfway through the first 20 minutes and gave the Peregrines their first double digit lead of the night, a lead they would never relinquish. Robinson finished with seven points and six rebounds.

Senior co-captain Linsey Smith (Lake Central), who leads the Peregrines averaging 14.7 points per game, led all scorers with 23, including four from the 3-point stripe, and grabbed seven rebounds. It was the fourth time this season Smith scored more than 20 points in a game.

Point guard Meme Harris (Merrillville) hit 58 percent of her shots scoring 16 points. The freshman, who leads the Peregrines with 34 swipes for the season, led them again with three steals.

Freshman forward Chrissy Lobodinski (Merrillville), who is averaging 14.2 points in her last four games, connected for 14 points against the Archers. Sophomore forward Sara Keilman (Morton) hit 62 percent of her shots finishing with a dozen points and led the Peregrines with eight rebounds.

Senior co-captain Shannon Dugan (Mother McAuley, Chicago) connected on three field goals and a pair of free throws for eight points, and she pulled down six rebounds. Off the bench, junior guard Nicole Enright (Munster) hit one 3-pointer and finished with nine points and three assists.

In their back-to-back wins, the Peregrines have averaged 89 points per game shooting 52 percent from the field, including a 46 percent rate from the 3-point stripe. They’re also hitting 75 percent from the charity stripe in both wins.

The Peregrines (5-17) host Indiana University South Bend on Thursday beginning at 7 p.m. A pair of lucky fans will win VIP seating for the game and be served by the PUC staff. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for ages 12-18 and free for ages under 12 and PUC students with current school photo ID.
