Olivet’s 3-point success leads to Peregrine loss

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. — Olivet Nazarene University’s offense lives and breathes in 3-point land. In its last three games, Olivet has averaged 109 points and 46 attempts per game from the 3-point stripe. The Lady Tigers (9-3) were above their average Saturday in both categories in a 132-92 nonconference win over the Peregrines (3-10).

The Lady Tigers connected on five 3-pointers in the first four minutes of action jumping out to a 21-7 lead and continued to hit from deep the entire first half. Olivet was 12-of-36 from the 3-point line in the first half and took 20 more attempts overall from the field than the Peregrines leading to a 75-45 halftime score in favor of the home team.

Freshman forward Chrissy Lobodinski (Merrillville) led the Peregrines with 21 points, her season high. Lobodinski was 10-of-17 from the field, a 58 percent success rate.

Junior forward LaKeisha Hurst (Dover, Del.) finished with 19 points and a career best 18 rebounds, including 10 off the offensive glass. Senior co-captain Linsey Smith (Lake Central) scored 18 points and grabbed five rebounds. Junior guard Nicole Enright (Munster) hit 50 percent from the field for eight points and junior center Rhiannon Howard (Lourdes) also finished with eight points and eight rebounds.

Offensively, the Peregrines shot 44 percent from the field, but turned the ball over 48 times that turned into 63 Lady Tiger points.

Next Saturday the Peregrines travel to South Bend for a nonconference noon C.S.T. meeting against the Lady Titans.
