HAMMOND, Ind. – Sophomore Heidi Freund, a 5-8 guard from Hebron, officially signed to play with Purdue University Calumet for the coming basketball season. Freund was among statistical leaders in scoring, rebounding, assists and steals during her senior year in high school.
Freund was an all area honorable mention player, and she ranked fourth overall in the area with 4.2 steals per game and seventh overall handing out 4.2 assists per game.
Freund is the seventh player to commit to the PUC women’s basketball team since the conclusion of the 2006-07 season. Lady Peregrine head coach Tom Megyesi was pleased with the late signing.
“Were very excited to have another guard with Heidi’s abilities,” Megyesi said. “She brings depth to our guard positions. We are fortunate to land such an athlete at this stage of the recruiting season.”
Six recruits in the Lady Peregrines fold are former Merrillville teammates guard Jamesha Harris and forward Chrissy Lobodinski, guards Amanda Moes of Highland and Jenny Britton of Lake Central, as well as forward Cortney Robinson of Hebron and junior college transfer Rhiannon Howard, a 6-5 center.
