ELGIN, Ill. — All PUC Peregrines shared the same problems Saturday night; finding a key that would unlock the lid that seemed to be firmly fastened on the offensive end of the court. Only able to connect on 29 percent of their shots for the game, the Peregrines lost, 81-60, to the Judson University Eagles in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest.
The Peregrine defense kept the deficit to five with 11:54 to play in the opening half. But the Eagles (11-9 overall, 2-1 CCAC) opened a 19-lead four minutes later and went to the half with a 49-22 advantage.
A pair of Peregrines registered their first double-doubles of the season to lead the highlights and also led all players in points and rebounds.
Senior Vince Johnson (Bishop Noll) led all scorers finishing with 17 points, 10 rebounds, two steals and a shot block. Johnson is averaging 8.9 points and six rebounds per game for the Peregrines.
Sophomore Michael Patton (Gary West Side) led all rebounders hauling in 13 boards, scored 14 points and had a pair of shot blocks. Patton leads the team averaging 7.7 rebounds per game, while averaging 10.1 points.
The Peregrines have a 7 p.m. tip Tuesday with the Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville Cougars of NCAA Division I.
