Peregrines keep pace in first half, fall in second half, 71-52

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — In a rematch with Kettle Classic opponent Mount Mercy, the Peregrines stayed close to the home team in the opening 20 minutes of action, including a pair of ties through the first 13 minutes of play. But the Mustangs (6-5) kicked their offense in high gear in the second half leading to the 71-52 loss for the visitors.

Antonio HurtThe Peregrines (1-8) shot nearly 42 percent from the field, including 25 percent from the 3-point stripe, in the first half and headed to the locker room trailing 33-28 behind Antonio Hurt’s (Michigan City) 10 points in 17 minutes of play. But the offense fell flat in the opening minutes of the second half registering only 10 points in the first 10 minutes of play, while the home team scored 17.

Hurt finished with game-high scoring honors hitting 72 percent from the field for 19 points, and led the team with seven rebounds and a game-high five shot blocks. Hurt, who led the team in scoring for the first time this season, is the team’s third leading scorer averaging 9.8 points per game, the second leading shot blocker with six and is averaging 4.8 rebounds per game.

Sophomore guard Robert Williams (Gary West Side) scored a dozen points, including a pair of 3-pointers, and had a season-high seven assists, five rebounds and a pair of steals in the loss. Senior Kris Krstevski (Lake Central) rounded out the top scorers with seven points, including a 3-pointer.
