REC CENTER — For the first 20 minutes of action, the Peregrines forced Lindsey Wilson College into 11 turnovers defensively and hit nearly 43 percent from the field on the offensive end of the court. And when they left the court at the half, the Peregrines trailed by a mere basket, 29-27.
But in the second half, the undermanned Peregrines simply ran out of gas with 11:20 to play and the Blue Raiders (5-1) took advantage leading to a 65-43 win.
In the last seven minutes of action, the Peregrines, who only scored 16 points in the second half, missed seven shots and commited four turnovers contributing to the loss. And the Blue Raiders were hitting 40 percent of their shots from six different players.
“We were tired and it showed up when we were shooting short shots late in the game,” head coach Dan Voudrie said. “Our guys are better shooters, but they (Blue Raiders) had a bigger lineup and a deeper bench and it wore on our rebounders and shooters.”
The Peregrines (0-5) were led in scoring by sophomore forward Don Davenport (Indianapolis Northwest) who finished with nine points (4-of-8) four rebounds and three steals. Guard Robert Williams (West Side) hit 40 percent of his shots for eight points. Antonio Hurt (Michigan City) scored seven, and Michael Patton (West Side) added six points, four assists and led the team with seven rebounds.
