REC CENTER — Bethel College showed the Peregrine faithful why the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics places the Pilot squad from Mishawaka so high in the rankings; they are very talented. The Peregrines kept the came close for the opening eight mintes, including a 12-12 tie with 12:02 until the half.
But the unbeaten Pilots widened the gap on a 15-2 run during the next three minutes and never allowed the Peregrines closer. The Pilots shot 55 percent in the first half and headed into the locker room with a 53-26 advantage.
PUC’s offense came out of the locker room with a little fire scoring seven points in the first three minutes, including a 3-pointer by team leading scorer Kris Krstevski (Lake Central) who finished with 15 points, nine from the 3-point stripe. But again the Pilots amped up their offense and held a 41-point lead with 12-plus minutes to play.
The Pilots have scored 100 points or more in four of their first six games, a 112 points per game average. Six players scored in double figures for the Pilots.
The Peregrines finished with four in double figures, including Krstevski. Sophomores Michael Patton (West Side) and Don Davenport (Indianapolis Northwest) each scored 11 points. Patton also had six rebounds, six assists, four steals and three shot blocks. Antonio Hurt (Michigan City) also cracked double digits adding 10 points and six rebounds to the final totals.
