HAMMOND, Ind. - Purdue University Calumet’s Charles Cruz (Gavit) earned first team honors in Division II of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. The junior forward shot 48 percent from the field and averaged 14.5 points and 5.2 rebounds in 12 conference games last season. Cruz was the team’s leading scorer averaging 14.8 ppg. He finished the season scoring 296 total points and grabbed 107 total rebounds in 20 games.
Honorable mention honors went to junior center Kevin Thomas (Highland), and freshmen guards Justin Latimore (Indianapolis North Central) and Michael Patton (West Side). Thomas averaged 11.3 points per game at a 55 percent clip, and finished as the team’s scoring leader with 305 total points. He also grabbed 4.7 rebounds per game and was third best on the team with 128 total rebounds.
Latimore averaged 8.9 points and 4.6 rebounds per game, while Patton scored 6.8 points and grabbed 5.5 rebounds per game to lead the Peregrines. Patton finished with 159 rebounds for the season.
