WESTVILLE, Ind. — Peregrine freshman guard Josh Collins (MacArthur, San Antonio, Tex.) was hot early and finished the day hitting 66 percent from the field to lead all scorers with 21 points. Three other Peregrines hit the double-digit mark as PUC beat its sister school, PNC, 74-51, in a Saturday afternoon Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup.

Collins’ 21 points included four 3-pointers, and he also dished out a pair of assists in 25 minutes of action. Sophomore guard Antonio McNeal (Gavit) was perfect from the field and the foul line connecting for 13 points, and he grabbed three rebounds.

Junior forward Charles Cruz (Gavit) finished with a dozen points, four rebounds and led the team with six assists. Freshman Justin Latimore (Indianapolis North Central) scored 11 and had six rebounds. Freshman Michael Patton (West Side) had a game-high nine rebounds, scored eight and dished out three assists in the win.

Unlike last month’s game between the two local Purdue basketball squads, which was tight until the closing minutes, Saturday’s game was never in doubt for PUC (6-20, 4-6 CCAC). Last month, the Peregrines trailed by two at the half before coming back to win. Saturday, the Peregrines enjoyed a 15-point lead at the break.

As a team, the Peregrines outshot the Panthers 47 percent to 33 percent from the field, including a 41 percent success rate compared to 20 percent from the 3-point stripe. The Peregrines also outrebounded the Panthers 34-27.

Purdue University Calumet travels to Deerfield, Ill., this Wednesday in the second game of a CCAC doubleheader with Trinity International University. The women tip at 5 p.m. and the men at 7 p.m. The Trojans defeated the Peregrines, 84-76, in overtime last month in PUC’s Fitness & Recreation Center.
