Peregrines force overtime, lose 84-76

REC CENTER — Junior co-captain Kris Krstevski’s layup with less than 10 seconds remaining tied the score at 72-72, and when the Trojans missed their last shot attempt the game went to overtime in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup with Trinity International University on Saturday. But with two scoring leaders and their point guard on the bench fouling out of the contest, the Peregrines (4-17, 2-3 CCAC) lost 84-76 in the extra period.

Junior forward Charles Cruz (Gavit), who fouled out with less than five minutes in regulation, led all scorers with 22 points, and had game-high rebounding honors with nine. Junior co-captain Kevin Thomas (Highland), who was tagged with his fifth foul midway through the second half, finished with 10 points and three assists.

Freshman guard Michael Patton (West Side) scored 13 points, including a 4-of-5 performance from the 3-point stripe. Patton also grabbed seven rebounds and had a pair of assists in the loss.

Off the bench, freshman Justin Latimore (Indianapolis North Central) shot 50 percent from the field and scored 10 points. Latimore also grabbed six rebounds. Point guard Collins (MacArthur, San Antonio, Texas) had a season-high seven assists to go along with eight points.

The Peregrines head to Milwaukee for a doubleheader with the women’s squad facing Cardinal Stritch University. The women tip at 5 p.m. and the men go at 7 p.m.
