WILLIAMSBURG, Kent. — Five Patriots scored double digits Friday night in the opener of the two-day Cumberland Invitiational hanging a 26-point loss on the Peregrines. The five Cumberland players accounted for 58 offensive points, one shy of PUC’s game total.
The Peregrines (0-3) trailed by only seven, 43-36, at the half, while shooting 53 percent from the field. The Patriots held the seven-point edge off seven 3-point baskets in the opening half.
But in the second 20-minutes of action, the Peregrines offense sputtered connecting on only 35 percent of their shots, including a 1-for-9 dismal performance from the 3-point stripe and a 2-for-13 finish at the charity stripe.
Freshman point guard Delriko Curtis (Benton Harbor, Mich.) led the Peregrines with 15 points on 7-of-12 (58 percent) from the field. His freshman counterpart, Josh Collins (San Antonio, Tex.), racked up 13 points on 6-of-13 (46 percent) from the field and added four assists and a pair of steals.
Freshman forward Justin Latimore (Indianapolis North Central) scored 10 points and grabbed five rebounds. Junior center Kevin Thomas (Highland) finished with eight points in 11 minutes of action before he was sidelined with an ankle sprain.
