REC CENTER — Kevin Thomas spun into the low post, slipped away from his defenders, sometimes three, and shot the ball off the glass for a field goal. He did it successfully 11 times and only missed once all night. The 6-8 co-captain led the Peregrines with 26 points and helped them gain their first win of the season, 61-48, beating backyard rival Indiana University Northwest.
Thomas (Highland) led all scorers, all rebounders with 13, nearly one third of the team’s total, and finished with more blocked shots, two, than any other player. The junior center was also credited with one steal for the most complete Peregrine performance of the season.
“He’s our leader and the guy we need to go to often,” Head Coach Grayling Gordon said. “K.T. works his tail off and he really went to work in tonight’s game.”

NEW ALBANY, Ind. — The Grenadiers took advantage of a young Peregrines squad’s mistakes scoring 20 points off turnovers in a 82-63 win in the first home win of the season for Indiana University Southeast.
PUC turned the ball over 10 times in a six-plus minute stretch of the second half turning a seven-point deficit into a 20-point Grenadier lead that the home team never relinquished.
The Peregrines (0-6) trailed 43-36 with 14:55 remaining in the second half when the turnover bug bit. In their next 15 possessions, the Peregrines scored four points, but gave the ball away 10 times that the Grenadiers (2-2) turned into a 60-40 lead with 8:46 left on the clock.
Co-captain Kevin Thomas (Highland) led the Peregrines with 13 points to tie two IUS players for game-high honors. The 6-8 junior center was perfect from the field hitting four field goals, and was 5-of-6 from the charity stripe. No other Peregrine cracked the double-digit category.

MISHAWAKA, Ind. — Road victories are the toughest wins to collect for nearly any team in any sport excluding this year’s New England Patriots. And so far in this early basketball campaign the Bethel College Pilots are not giving away the home court advantage.
The Pilots, 7-1, and unbeaten in Gates Gymnasium, handed the Peregrines their fifth loss of the season, 85-60. The Pilots brought out their offensive arsenal and nailed 60 percent of their shots in the opening half for 53 points and a 25-point cushion at the break. The deficit was too much for the young Peregrines now 0-5.
Junior co-captain Kevin Thomas (Highland) led the starting rotation with a dozen points while grabbing three rebounds. Team-high scoring honors went to 6-5 freshman forward Antonio Hurt (Michigan City) who was 7-of-11 (63 percent) from the field for 16 points. Hurt also grabbed four rebounds.

WILLIAMSBURG, Kent. — A strong offensive output in the second half couldn’t put the Peregrines over the hump in a 78-72 loss against Edward Waters College, Fla. in the second day of the Cumberland University Invitational. The Peregrines 49-point half was the best to date in the first four games of the season.
The offense was 17-of-41 (42 percent) from the field, including three 3-pointers, and a dozen points from the charity stripe. Four Peregrines registered double digits led by junior center Kevin Thomas (Highland) who scored 18 points and tied for the team lead with eight rebounds.
