Peregrines sign three local prep stars, Krstevski, McNeal, Elabed

HAMMOND, Ind. – Purdue University Calumet acting men’s basketball coach Russ Marcinek announced that three former local high school standouts have committed to play for the Peregrines next season. They are Lake Central graduate Krste Krstevski, Gavit alumnus Antonio McNeal and Morton’s Joe Elabed.

Krstevski enrolled at Purdue Calumet last spring after previously playing at Florida International University. The 6-feet-5 senior wing player “can shoot and rebound,” Marcinek said. Krstevski is a 2004 graduate of Lake Central, where he earned all-area and all-Duneland Conference honors while averaging 13 points and seven rebounds a game as a senior.

The 6-1 McNeal, who previously played at Joliet Junior College, brings “athleticism and the ability to run the floor well,” according to Marcinek.

Elabed, a 6-3 wing player, earned all-Lake Athletic Conference Blue Division honors last season in averaging some 17 points a game. “He’s a good shooter and rebounder with a nose for the ball,” Marcinek said.

Also planning to return to the Peregrines after sitting out last season is 6-4 junior guard/forward Jason Corns of Lowell.

“We have about 12 or 13 players on our roster,” Marcinek said. “They’re pretty good shooters, rebounders, and they’re athletic. Overall, it’s a solid group, both on the court and in the classroom.”
