HAMMOND, Ind. – Marcus Ford (Wirt) who played two seasons with NCAA Division 1 University of Tennessee at Martin will finish his collegiate career at Purdue University Calumet. The 6-0 point guard averaged 2.7 points per game shot .406 from the field and had 2.8 assists per game in limited duty in his last season with the Skyhawks. His collegiate career highlight was against Duke University when he scored nine points and had five assists in Cameron Hall.The Peregrines also picked up Vince Johnson (Bishop Noll/Des Moines Area Community College), a 6-5 swingman, who averaged double digits in scoring for the DMACC Bears as a sophomore. At Noll, Johnson was an all-conference player twice.
Drew Polak (Clark) has also agreed to play with the Peregrines for the 2006-07 season. The 6-5 guard was named as a second-team all-area player for The Times leading the Pioneers to a sectional basketball title, its first since 1972. He was also the ace for the Pioneers who won a regional title last season.
Also signed out of Indianapolis, is Justin Latimore (North Central), a 6-4 forward. Latimore will be red-shirted for the first semester until he is academically eligible. Latimore’s high school teammate Jay Harmas committed to PUC in June.
Head Coach Mike James was satisfied with the final four recruits for the 2006-07 campaign.
“We’re real pleased with who we were able to bring in,” James said. “Marcus is a proven collegiate talent and a true point guard, which is what we need.
“Vince can score inside and outside and can really get after rebounds. With Drew, all you have to do is look at his accomplishments from last season to judge the type of athlete he is, and Justin is going to be able to help us when he becomes eligible.”
